Sessions

This is a list of sessions from the event, based on the schedule in the XML files.

Title: Dimensional Modeling Design Patterns: Beyond the Basics

Abstract: Dimensional modeling is one of cornerstones of successful business intelligence (BI) initiatives. Even with new technologies such as PowerPivot and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) tabular models, you need to represent your organization’s data in a way that is accessible for end users and IT staff alike. An effective dimensional model can also help to ensure that your data warehouse or data mart is responsive and can accommodate emerging requirements.

This session dives deeper into the art of dimensional modeling. We look at how and when to create different types of fact and dimension tables, including patterns for enriching dimensional data, creating usable hierarchies for efficient navigation, and tracking historical changes. After this session, you will be able to confidently assess the quality of your organization’s dimensional model and recommend and implement changes. Bring your toughest quandaries to this interactive and engaging session.

Speaker(s):

  • Jason Horner

Track and Room: Multidimensional Modeling - Salon Principal

Title: Power Query para Power BI: De Cero al [M]#225;ximo

Abstract: Power Query is a free add-in created by Microsoft for Excel 2010 (or later) and also for the Power BI Designer. It’s an intuitive tool that lets you manipulate, transform, consolidate, enrich, merge and do much more with your data. It also acts as an ETL tool which means that it Extracts data from almost any data source, Transforms that data somehow and then Loads it somewhere – in our case that’s either Excel, Power Pivot or the Power BI Designer canvas.

In short, this is THE best Data tool for the Business User.

In this session you’ll learn the basics of this tool and how some things are even easier with this tool than with something like SSIS.

Speaker(s):

  • Miguel Escobar

Track and Room: BI Information Delivery - Salon Principal

Title: Using big data to drive U.S. healthcare reform

Abstract: A big-data revolution is underway in healthcare. Over the past decade payers and providers have been digitizing patient records into medical databases, including data from patients covered under private and public insurance programs. During this same timeframe technological advances have made it easier to collect and analyze information from different sources including payers, hospitals, laboratories and physician offices. In this session we will explore how McKinsey Healthcare Analytics manages and analyzes large databases with billions of records of highly sensitive information and produce market changing insights on the U.S. healthcare landscape. What are the challenges? How can we make sense of highly heterogeneous data? In what ways can we visualize the data to make it valuable?
