Title: he godlike power of Excel 2013 with its disciples PowerPivot, PowerView and Geoflow

Abstract: You will be converted to “Personal BI” (Business Intelligence)” when you see real client examples of Excel Add-in’s PowerPivot (100million rows in Excel), PowerView (rich easy to use data exploration tool) and Geoflow (fully interactive data mapped on the globe) You may wonder why Excel is getting all the attention at a SQLSaturday. It’s simple. Excel is the tool for “Personal BI” PowerPivot is an in mememory tabular storage model built by the Analysis Server (SSAS) team. It shares the same codebase with SSAS Tabular, the same technology running on a server. So you have on your desktop, in Excel, a serverlike godlike power… All SQL Professionals should know how to weild this power!

Title: Introducing Microsoft Data Explorer for Excel

Abstract: In this session, I will introduce the audience to Microsoft Data Explorer for Excel. “Data Explorer” is an Excel add-in that enhances the self-service Business Intelligence experience in Excel by simplifying data discovery and access. It has often been referred to as the end-user ETL tool, but I believe that it will also be a valuable tool for all technical staff. This demo rich presentation will expose many great features of the newest addition to the Microsoft self-service offering.

Title: Maximizing SQL Server Performance: Tuning the Processor, RAM, Disk and Network Subsystems

Abstract: You can’t escape hardware or the laws of physics. Ultimately your SQL Server instance will be using the processor, memory, disk and network subsystems. In this session Victor Isakov (MCA, MCM, MCT, MVP) will go through the various subsystems and examine how the SQL Server database engine works with them and what configuration options exist. Along the way he will discuss how to tune the hardware, operating system and SQL Server for maximal performance.

Title: Mastering the CUBE functions in Excel 2013

Abstract: This session explores the seven CUBE functions that are natively available in Excel 2013. Unknown to many business analysts, these useful functions can be used to retrieve data model members and values to create parameter-driven report designs.

The session topics will introduce each of the seven functions. Demonstrations will range from the simple, to the more sophisticated involving dynamic expressions, MDX expressions, integration of data from multiple data models, and macro-driven layouts.

This session is a must for those looking to drive more from Excel when reporting from the BI Semantic Model. Much of the content presented in this session is also applicable to Excel 2007 and Excel 2010.

Title: Big Data Analytics with PowerPivot and Power View

Abstract: This presentation will introduce big data analytics for the business analyst with PowerPivot and Power View. It will be of interest to those new to the concept of big data, new to self-service data modelling with PowerPivot, and those interested to understand what is new for PowerPivot and Power View in Excel 2013.Demonstrations will include creating a big data solution by using HDInsight Server; producing a PowerPivot model based on the big data solution; using PowerPivot to integrate big data with local data; and, analyzing the PowerPivot model data by using Power View.

Title: Agile BI with SQL Server 2012 and TFS 2012

Abstract: In a world where executives/CXOs are keen to perform analytics and data consolidation with lightning speed, there is a strong push towards incorporating the principles of Agile manifesto in the BI world to deliver solutions faster than ever before. In this session, I will share techniques that will help a consultant deliver BI solutions with a rapid prototyping approach and how Agile features of TFS can be leveraged to run projects. The session will involve case studies and practical demos using Team Foundation Server and SQL Server 2012’s BI tools - SSIS, SSRS, SSAS (tabular) and Excel PowerPivot.

Victor Isakov (MCA, MCM, MCSM, MCT, MVP) is a Database Architect and trainer who provides consulting and training services to various organizations in the public, private, and NGO sectors globally. He regularly speaks at international conferences such as Microsoft TechEd/Ignite, PASS Summit, IT/Dev Connections, and SQLSaturdays. Victor has written a number of books on SQL Server and has worked with Microsoft to develop the SQL Server exams and certification.
